The Challenge
Few Californians had heard of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) or toxic stress when the Office of the California Surgeon General asked Civilian to build a statewide awareness campaign. We let the people closest to the issue shape it. A statewide survey developed with RAND, three advisory boards that met monthly, and listening sessions with youth, parents, caregivers, and community partners led to Live Beyond. More than 809,000 people have sought resources on the campaign website, with 1 in 5 chosing Spanish-language content.
