Thirteen years ago, on September 11, 2001, our country was hit by tragedy. Thousands of lives were lost, countless people injured, and many more left heartbroken. Mothers, fathers, children, brothers, sisters, cousins, grandparents, and friends were all lost that day.
But despite the heartache and pain, it was not long before we were back on our feet. It’s true that often the worst situations are the ones which cultivate something good. This happens to be one of those times. Soon after the attacks, the nation joined together like never before. Communities came together for support, ordinary people became heroes, and the strength of our nation and culture became ever apparent.
Today, marking the 13th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, President Obama and the first lady led America in a moment of silence on the White House lawn. “On this anniversary we’re reminded of the resilience of the American spirit,” President Obama said in this morning’s heartfelt speech, “and the importance of the values we hold dear: freedom, equality, and opportunity. And we recommit ourselves to the defense of liberty and the pursuit of a more peaceful world.”
While the war on terrorism continues after 13 long years, the United States stands stronger than ever. DNC Chairwoman Wasserman-Schultz praised America’s resilience in the face of tragedy during this morning’s ceremony, reminding us that “what binds us together is far greater than what draws us apart.” Despite 9/11’s location on the East Coast, its effects are felt wide-spread throughout the country, including here at AdEase.
