Advertising is considered by many to be a form of art. But the Outdoor Advertising Association of America and Art Institutes across the country have partnered up to take it to the next level. The Art Everywhere campaign, which originated in the U.K., was just recently launched in Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, New York and Washington D.C. as a joint effort to bring attention back to classic art and their respective museums, and also to showcase the latest technology in advertising.

The amazing campaign is turning billboards and overhead signs across the country into sprawling displays of classic American art. And the results are nothing short of fantastic.

Some of the artwork is being displayed on billboards in the place of standard advertisements (as shown above) but other pieces are being displayed in far more creative and eye catching formats.

Ads are also being displayed across large digital billboards and some are even tagged through the mobile app Blippar, which uses augmented reality technology to recognize the painting on the billboard and give the user more information about the piece and the Art Everywhere promotion.

It’s always exciting to witness people pushing the boundaries of advertising in innovative and informative ways. Sometimes it’s easy to forget how creativity was expressed before the digital revolution, and having it all brought back through a seamless integration with modern technology is truly a sight to see.
