AdEase was recognized Wednesday, June 18, at the San Diego Suicide Prevention Council’s Annual Stakeholder Meeting. The recognition for Outstanding Community Partner for “Service and Devotion to the San Diego County Suicide Prevention Council” is a humbling reminder for AdEase of the influence our work has on the San Diego and mental health communities.

Among other work in the mental health field, AdEase crafted a local suicide prevention and mental illness stigma reduction campaign through San Diego County’s Health and Human Services Association tagged “It’s Up to Us.” The campaign’s implementation has had noteworthy results. According to an annual campaign follow-up study, 83% of San Diegans recognized the ads and 36% discussed them with someone else. Additionally, 60% of the people who saw the ads agree that they helped recognize the symptoms of mental health problems.

The SPC’s admirable effort to realize a vision of zero suicides in San Diego County creates the perfect vehicle for success of campaigns like It’s Up to Us and Know the Signs. Their devotion to the mental health community makes us proud to be a partner.

Currently, one in four adults in San Diego County are victims of mental health challenges, but many more are affected around them. Nationally, about 61.5 million Americans experience mental illness in a given year while 60% of them receive no mental health services. In addition, mental illness costs America 193.2 billion in lost earnings per year.
