The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency approached Civilian with one of our most challenging and rewarding projects yet — suicide prevention and mental health stigma reduction. How can we change the narrative and give hope to those being affected? And, how can we reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide?
The insight
We learned that just by starting the conversation and talking openly about mental illness, those being affected were more apt to seek help earlier, when treatment is most effective.
The result
We created the It’s Up to Us campaign to empower San Diegans to talk openly about mental illness. Knowing they weren’t alone, those affected were more likely to recognize the symptoms, tap into the many resources, and get help.
