Art Ebuen is not only a talented creative in our industry, he’s also an accomplished animator and self-professed ”nerd” who is in the throws of creating his own comic book series. He books his vacation time a year in advance of Comic-Con. Art is also a family man and reigning king of Dad jokes.
When you were 10 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An animator. (and I did it)
A social cause you care deeply about and why?
Body image with kids and how it affects self-esteem. As a father of two girls, it’s hard for me to hear people say to them, “Hi, pretty girl.” I know it’s a compliment but if it’s the lead to most interactions, they’ll think that physical image is most important. We are surrounded by media and advertising which enforces that physical image is a measure of importance. I can only control myself and what I do, so I start my conversations with them with, “Hi sweetie, what fun stuff did you learn today?” or “I missed you, tell me what I missed out on?”
If you could earn a living doing anything else, what would it be?
You can invite 3 people from either present day or history to break bread with, who would it be and why?
Conan O’Brien – He wrote for The Simpsons and SNL. Then later converted what should have been a huge loss in his career to becoming a pop culture force all while staying true to his style and humor.
Donald Glover – He’s constantly challenging himself as an artist. From comic sketch artist, to writer, to actor, and now musician.
My mom – I miss her (blows a kiss to Heaven). And seeing how the two above would interact with her would be awesome.
In 5 words, describe yourself? (must use all 5….no more…no less)
One, two, three, four, FIF!
