Senior Public Relations Manager

We are seeking a Senior Public Relations Manager with a passion for social change to lead the development and tactical execution of the agency’s marketing, communications, public relations, and outreach efforts. The successful Senior PR Manager will initiate and drive the planning, strategic development, recommendations, and execution of high-quality earned media, owned communications, and outreach to the agency’s clients and will ensure their needs are met every step of the way.

This position is located in San Diego, CA but the agency will consider applicants based in Sacramento.

Responsibilities:

Client Services (80%):

  • Lead the development and execution of short- and long-term communications, earned media, and outreach services for clients
  • Develop or oversee the development of key messages, talking points, blog posts, press releases, and more to support public relations and outreach campaigns
  • Perform or manage the performance of media outreach and generate earned media
  • Perform or manage the performance of stakeholder and community outreach and influencer engagement activities
  • Identify opportunities for innovative partnerships and approaches to advance client goals
  • Ensure that all public relations and outreach activities align with, compliment, and support the services being provided by other agency departments
  • Establish, build relationships, and make regular contact with the individuals in charge of PR within each client’s organization, as appropriate
  • Stay up to date on client news and industry trends; share relevant information and ideas with the Strategy and Communications team
  • Support the Director of Strategy and Communications on client services as needed

Administrative Duties (20%):

  • Oversee the work product and professional development of direct reports, including the PR Manager and the Content and Digital Deployment Manager
  • Support the Director in public outreach and media engagement for Civilian as needed
  • Support Civilian’s goals, strategic plan, and community impact initiatives
  • Participate in weekly department meetings, and staff meetings
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external colleagues to execute strategies and communicate relevant information
  • Identify, vet, work with, and/or manage subcontractors as needed
  • Help prepare for and participate in business development pitches as needed

Job requirements:

  • 12+ years of marketing, communications, public relations, and/or outreach experience; agency experience preferred
  • Public/community outreach and program development experience is preferred
  • Experience with Cision, Meltwater or other similar media monitoring and database tool preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Problem-solver with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to tailor communication that effectively connects with diverse audiences
  • Proven ability to develop and implement public affairs, marketing, and communications plans that achieve specific, measurable results
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Able to cultivate optimal interdepartmental relationships
  • Good listener who includes and engages others
  • Able to manage people and multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Exhibits professionalism, initiative, and commitment
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver’s License and pass all applicable background checks
