Proposal Writer (Freelance)

Job Overview
Responsible for developing written proposals that are easy to read, engaging, and persuasive, and that effectively  showcase the agency’s qualifications, experience, and proposed plans to win new business. The Proposal Writer partners closely with agency staff and subject-matter experts to develop content for a range of business development needs, including business development proposals, case studies, and award submissions.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine proposal outlines and content needs by studying requests for proposals (RFPs), attending strategy meetings, and working closely with the Proposal Lead and Subject-Matter Experts.
  • Write key agency content for business development proposals.
  • Collect, organize, and revise proposal content submitted by project team members.
  •  Improve proposal-writing results by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and boilerplates, volunteering ideas for improvements, and implementing changes.
  • Support the Proposal Lead throughout the proposal process, meeting proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval, coordinating requirements with contributors, and contributing proposal status information during review meetings.
  • Contribute to content and rationale of proposal graphics (working with graphic designer).
  • Maintain quality results by using templates and following proposal-writing standards, including readability, consistency, and tone.
  • Research and gather relevant information to create a proposal and win new business.
  • Maintain proposal content database.
  • Produce strong, engaging marketing content for the agency, including website copy, collateral content, annual reports, newsletter articles, case studies, blog posts, infographics, and other assets.
  • Revise case studies into abstracts for award submissions and conference presentations.
  • Edit agency content to ensure voice, grammar, and style is on point.
  • Identify gaps in the existing content library and recommend new topics and formats.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging, branding, and style.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of writing experience in the areas of marketing, communications, public relations, or outreach; agency experience preferred
  • 2+ years of proven experience in writing proposals (desired)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Ability to write clear and concise proposals
  • Ability to ideate, gather, and organize ideas into carefully crafted stories and content that inspires audiences to take our desired action
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and strong multitasking skills
  • Problem-solver with excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good listener who includes and engages others
  • Able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities
  • Exhibits professionalism, initiative, and commitment
  • Experience working collaboratively in Google Suite is preferred
